Learning outcome
The students will:
- understand important concepts in datacommunication and computer networks
- acquire knowledge about local area network components
- be able to install and manage a Windows Server computer with Active Directory Domain Services, and Windows client computers in a Windows domain.
- be able to implement and manage simple local area networks, wireless networks and programservices in a LAN and Internet.
Course Description
- PC hardware and communication media
- Network components in a local area network
- Windows Server and Windows clients in local area networks.
- Server roles, domains, DHCP, DNS and Active Directory.
- Disc management, user management, user groups, permissions, printer management.
Lab-exercises includes installing, configuring and managing Windows Server with Active Directory.
Teaching and Learning Methods
Online study, with no requirement for participation at scheduled times. Students are expected to put down 8-10 hours of work per. weeks. Students must have access to computer equipment as specified in the study program. Practical lab-exercises (10-12) can be done using the students PC, after installing the free software VMWare Player. Lab-exercises are not mandatory, but will support deeper understanding of the theoretical concepts. Digital learning resources will be published online, and students are free to use the material for study when they want to. Guidance and problem solving will by done by e-mail, in online discussion groups and online meetings.
Assessment Methods
A 4-hour digital examination. A number of obligatory assignments submitted during the course must be approved before the student will be permitted to sit the examination.
