Learning outcome
After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes:
Knowledge
The candidate has knowledge of:
- The voluntary sector’s importance to society, with regard to the further development of democracy and overall objectives regarding social development
- The voluntary sector as part of sector policy (e.g. integration and inclusion, upbringing and socialization, environment and health, business and development)
- Changes in the relationship between the voluntary sector, market and the state
- The voluntary sector as a stakeholder in the development and distribution of welfare benefits (organization, organizations, and characteristics)
- The importance of voluntary cultural activities for cultural enterprises, cultural events and festivals
Skills
The candidate:
- Can problematize voluntary activities and the voluntary sector as a potential supplier of services, including cultural services, and as part of a democratic culture

Is able to make local assessments of voluntary resources and deal constructively with these
Course Description
This course focuses on the social and cultural role of the voluntary sector. A primary objective will be to demonstrate the sector’s significance for local diversity, integration, environment, health, child development, business and local/regional development. We will also examine the development of the relationship between the voluntary sector and cultural business activities, such as for example festivals and other cultural events.
Teaching and Learning Methods
Lectures, seminars, practice and student oral presentations.
Assessment Methods
Presentations. Individual, written final examination without invigilation which counts 100% of the final grade.
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
