Learning outcome
After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence.
Knowledge
The candidate has knowledge of:

Skills
The candidate can:
- Complete an academic study in the field of culture of a specified range (see content)
- Present a written account of a study in the field of culture in accordance with scientific requirements
- Communicate and discuss experiences / results in relation to work on a Bachelor’s thesis
- Use the curriculum literature and other relevant subject literature in an independent academic study related to the field of culture
General competence
The candidate can:
- Design research questions and justify relevant methodology described in a project description
- On the basis of collected data, and in accordance with a research question and chosen methodology, present experiences and analyses in a written project
Course Description
The course includes an introduction to qualitative and quantitative research methodology. Students must base their theses on one of the following two options:
- Fieldwork conducted while undertaking an internship in a cultural institution, organization, business; or fieldwork relating to the student’s own student business (see 2807 Student Enterprise); or:
- Problem-oriented research into a cultural topic.
Option 1 theses must be 50,000 – 60,000 characters in length, while Option 2 theses must be 70 000 – 80 000 characters in length (in both cases inclusive of spaces and footnotes). These figures do not include the title page, table of contents and bibliography.
Teaching and Learning Methods
Lectures and seminars. The thesis must be an independent study. The student will be assigned a supervisor who will monitor the student’s work. The research question for the thesis must be approved by the supervisor. It is an advantage but not a requirement, if the topic is closely related to other topics in the study programme. It is mandatory to submit a project description at an early point in the semester.
Assessment Methods
A preliminary grade will be given on the basis of the completed thesis. If the thesis receives a passing mark, then the candidate will be assessed in an oral examination based on the thesis. The assessment of the oral examination will be used to adjust the grade given for the thesis. Graded from A-F, where F represents a fail.
