Course Description
This course examines the arts and cultural sectors from a structural and historical perspective. It examines policy trends, legal considerations, and various forms of public and private funding. The course also examines problems and challenges in the arts and cultural sectors, taking both a contemporary and a historical perspective, as well as considering present-day artistic trends. Students also learn about communications and sales arenas in various contexts in the cultural sector. Through analysing a series of case studies, students will gain an understanding of the cyclical nature of the sector.
Teaching and Learning Methods
Lectures, seminars, study trips and observations, as well student assignments. The instruction is largely case-based and carried out in close cooperation with cultural institutions and organizations.
Assessment Methods
Coursework requirement: written assignment, which is graded on a pass/fail basis.
Individual exam based on a chosen case. Scope of 2000 - 2500 words. Graded A- F. The assignment and the individual final examination must receive passing marks in order to be given a final passing grade for the course.
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
