Learning outcome
After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence.
Knowledge
The candidate has:
- A thorough overview of selected theories of learning and motivation
- An understanding of upbringing, education and the transmission of values in a sports educational perspective

Basic understanding of the impact the coach’s role has on children’s and young people’s athletic and personal development.
Skills
The candidate:
- Has the ability to apply pedagogical theories in the field of sport education
- Can plan, organize, implement and evaluate their own sports teaching
- Has the ability to independently - and with a critical eye - acquire and apply pedagogical theories and perspectives in the field of sport

Has the ability to reflect on sport pedagogy in practice and theory.
General competence
The candidate can:
- Communicate subject content in relation to both theory and practice
- Integrate sports educational practice and theory
- Develop sports pedagogical reflection.
Course Description
The following themes will be emphasized:
- Various approaches to knowledge and learning
- Skill developments, including communication skills
- Teaching methods and learning strategies in working with athletes
- Sports didactics in theory and practice
- Motivation and mastery
- The Learning Environment
- Play and creativity in sport
Teaching and Learning Methods
The course aims to promote interest in the subject and an inquiring attitude towards both the profession and society. The student will gain knowledge by relating new experiences to those acquired earlier. The course aims to create an active learning environment in which an inquiring attitude and learning are of primary importance. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning, and participation in the student group is therefore important in achieving this. The course includes lectures, student presentations, debates, and case/group work.
Assessment Methods
Four-hour individual examination; graded assessment.
