Learning outcome
After completing the course, students will have the following learning outcomes in terms of knowledge, skills and competences:
* Basic knowledge of science's development, evolution and development of populations and species.
* Knowledge of different macromolecules, celle types, genetics,and biological processes such as photosynthesis and respiration.
Course Description
Main topics:
* Structure and function of major biological molecule.
* Structure and funksjon of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, mitosis and meiosis
*The chromosomal basis of inheritance
* Natural science's development from a historical perspective, important natural scientists.
* Evolution: Darwin, natural selection, genetic drift, Hardy-Weinberg law, speciation, phylogeny, systematics.
* Photosynthesis and cellular respiration
* Prevalence, health consequences and benefits of various microorganisms (protists).
* Morphology and reproduction of bacteria.
Teaching and Learning Methods
Instruction is given in the form of lectures. The main content of the lectures are available to students in electronic form. For each theme there are repeat questions so that students can work on their own with this.
Assessment Methods
It will be given grades A - F on an individual written examination (4 hours).
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
