Spanish Language and Culture I 2301

Course Description

The course will provide a closer introduction to modern Spanish grammar and syntax. In addition an introduction will be given in practical language use.

Assessment Methods

The examination will consist of 2 parts:

1) A 3-hour written examination, which will represent 50% of the final grade.

2) An oral examination of up to 30 minutes duration, which will represent 50% of the final grade. The oral examination will consist of two parts: firstly, a discussion in Spanish of a topic, which has been covered in the course, and secondly, reading aloud Spanish texts followed by a discussion of the texts.

Students must receive passing grades in both the written and oral examinations in order to achieve a final passing grade for the course. The examinations will be graded according to the A-F grading system, where E is the lowest passing grade.

Examination aids will be permitted in the written examination:

A monolingual Spanish dictionary which does not include information on Spanish grammar or conjugation, for example, either: Diccionario Larousse del español moderno or Larousse Diccionario práctico español moderno.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
