Learning outcome

After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence.

Knowledge

The candidate has:

  • The ability to apply and reflect on theories and perspectives in educational leadership roles in sports
  • A thorough overview and knowledge of pedagogical theories and perspectives on leadership in sports
  • Thorough knowledge of sports coaching as a teaching and learning method.

Skills

The candidate has the ability to:

  • Reflect on developmental processes related to educational leadership roles in sports
  • Reason and discuss academic and practical issues from a theoretical perspective.

General competence

The candidate:

  • Can, using effective analytical skills and a high level of reflection, plan, implement and evaluate various instructive and counseling sessions in an athletic context
  • Possesses high professional quality through integrating theory and practice in both written and verbal contexts.

Course Description

The course focuses on three main themes, which aim to develop an understanding and knowledge of coaching and leadership roles in sport:

  • Teamwork and democratic leadership
  • Communication and power
  • Personal knowledge creation and practice theory

Teaching and Learning Methods

Lectures and seminars, in addition to student presentations and tutorials.

Emphasis will be given to 3rd year Bachelor’s students developing their ability to work independently with the subject material, especially considering that not all course topics will be presented in lectures. Students, with the subject teacher in attendance, will present assignments and lead seminar discussions.

Assessment Methods

  1. Written group assignment. 5-days. Graded from A-E
