Learning outcome

Students who attend the course will gain knowledge about important historical developments in Norwegian history before 1800, and acquire understanding of factors and processes that create change. They will also gain detailed knowledge about a specific historical topic in Norwegian history before 1800, as well as basic methodological skills.

The students are trained in organizing complex historical information in a logically consistent manner, as well as analyzing historical data, sources and literature, and draw independent conclusions from such material.

Course Description

The course gives an overview over Norwegian history before 1800. The course includes both an overview section (2/3) that provides a perspective on the major events and issues, and a specialized section (1/3) that allows a closer study on a specific topic (for example "Patriotism and ideas of freedom in Norway 1750-1814").

Teaching and Learning Methods

The teaching and learning methods will alternate between lectures, seminars and digital, online-learning resources.

Mandatory coursework requirements may be specified, including submission of assignments. Fulfillment of mandatory requirements is a precondition for being permitted to take the examination in the course.

Assessment Methods

* Written exam, 6 hours, graded

* Work requirements. Will be specified in the semester plan.

Students must make themselves familiar with, and comply with, the information in the study guide / semester plan regarding course registration, registration for the examination, reading requirements, the submission of assignments etc.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
