3304 Media Analysis and Communication

Course Objectives

The student will be able to use various media to promote cultural products and will learn to see the connection between the methods of production used by media and the content of the media. Students will be able to plan and carry out a defined plan of information and develop a critical and analytical approach to media texts.

Course Description

This course aims to qualify the students to work in the cultural sector. Students will learn to be critical users of cultural products which are produced and disseminated by the media.

The main themes are:

Media texts as representation of experience

How and why media texts are produced

The presentation of media texts

Media effects and processes used to influence

Media products as works of art

Underlying values in a media-promoted cultural product

Effective communication

Internal/external information

Developing a capacity for ethical reflection

Learning Methods

Lectures and seminars.

Assessment Methods

Obligatory assignment which must be submitted (mid-term) will be assessed pass/fail.
Individual written examination, graded mark. Students must receive a passing mark for their assignment in order to achieve a passing mark for the course.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
