Quantitative Ecology 4310
Course Objectives
Students will learn to use various numerical methods to analyse ecological data, and to interpret and understand the results which the methods show.
Course Description
Theoretical description of how various ordination programmes work.
Description of scientific work in which numerical methods are used.
Practical exercises in the use of the programmes CANOCO and CANODRAW.
Learning Methods
Intensive instruction over a period of 2 weeks in either the autumn or spring semesters (according to agreement). Roughly 15 hours of lectures and 40 hours of practice in the data-lab. The teaching takes place at the Biology Department at Tromsø University.
Assessment Methods
Individual take-home examination with graded mark. After the course is finished, the students will receive a dataset which can be used by applying numerical methods.
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
