Spanish Language and Culture II 2302
Course Objectives
The aim of the course is to provide the student with a cultural perspective on the Spanish-speaking world. Students will gain the ability to analyse critically and understand the various cultural, social and political phenomena in Latin-American and Spanish-speaking countries. The course will also provide the student with insight into and knowledge of the Spanish language.
Course Description
The course will provide a general introduction to Latin American and Spanish cultural topics, with special emphasis on contemporary history and the modern literary and political debate in the Iberian-American cultural area. Amongst other things, the course will cover topics such as culture, cultural identity, social movements, national minorities, feminism, regional conflicts, music and film.
Learning Methods
The course includes lectures and seminars. Attendance at the seminars is obligatory. Students are expected to put effort into their studying and participate actively in the instruction. The teaching language is Spanish.
10 weeks (60 teaching hours), one week’s self-study and one week for examinations (oral and written).
Lectures in cultural knowledge, in which the main syllabus texts will be covered. Lectures in language, with a focus on grammar and translation.
Assessment Methods
The examination is divided into two parts:
1) A written examination which counts for 60% of the final grade, in-class examination or home-examination.
2) An oral examination (max: 30 minutes) which counts for 40% of the final grade.
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
