Course Objectives

The students will acquire an understanding of the operation of networks and data systems, and acquire comprehensive practical exercise in carrying out vital tasks related to this field.

Course Description

Operation of data systems, including networks, operative systems, databases and software in general. Remote control of subsidiary machines and local networks. Distribution and updating of software, tools for automation, scripting. Security in networks, file servers, e-post servers and web servers. Identification of bottlenecks, resource allotment, 24x7 operations, scaling, system monitoring, logging on, fault-finding methods, backup copies and repair, user administration, authorising systems. Organisation and procedures for system operations.

Learning Methods

8 hours of lectures, exercises and guidance per week during the spring semester.

Assessment Methods

Continuous assessment in the form of obligatory exercises which must be completed and approved before the student may take the 5-hour, individual written final examination.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
