Course Objectives

The student will:

  • Become familiar with human psychological development and maturation.
  • Learn about the relationships between people’s health, illness, living conditions, ability to cope with difficult circumstances, culture and society.

Course unit 4A: Psychology

  • Human psychological development and maturation
  • Social perception

Course unit 4B: Sociology and Anthropology

  • The social-scientific approach
  • Social-scientific theories, concepts and models

Course unit 4C: Health and Social Policies

  • The concept of the welfare state, organisation and institutions
  • Political systems, decision-making organs and legal systems

Course unit 4D: Society and Health

  • Social factors that influence a person’s health and ability to cope
  • Historical perspectives on society and health
  • Work, family and health

Classroom teaching, self-study and group project

Assessment Methods

050E04-1 SAM

Social-scientific group project related to health-promotion and preventative initiatives

The project assignment will be assessed on a pass/fail basis, and yields 11 ECTS.
