Spoken Norwegian for Foreign Students 2204

Course Objectives

We will work on:

  • conversing about everyday topics
  • discussing the texts of novels, newspaper articles and other material
  • pronouncing Norwegian correctly and being understood
  • being able to read aloud with good pronunciation and intonation.

Course Description

Oral exercises in the language lab will train all aspects of verbal fluency. Students will be actively engaged in the lessons. Texts which demonstrate various aspects of Norwegian will be read.

Learning Methods

The instruction will alternate between exercises in the language lab, text-reading, role-playing, conversations, interview and listening exercises. Corrective verbal examinations will be held regularly. Verbal activity will be incorporated into all of the main topics.

Assessment Methods

There will be an oral examination with most of the emphasis placed on practical fluency. The examination will be in the form of a conversation based on the texts studied in the programme. The oral examination counts for 25% of the total grade for the programme. A grading scale of A to F will be used in evaluating the examinations, where A is the highest possible grade and E is the lowest passing grade. A cumulative grade will be given for the programme.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
