Course Objectives
The student will:
Develop critical and analytical skills with respect to the knowledge base of the nursing profession and his/her personal practices.
Use tools for the identification and evaluation of the patient’s need for nursing.
Recognise the nurse’s responsibility for, and the complexity of, cooperation with individual patients and groups of patients.
Develop the ability to assess research articles and their relevance to nursing in the municipal health services, critically and constructively.
Demonstrate attitudes which protect the integrity of individual patients.
Gain an understanding of professional challenges in international health work.
Have insight and skills in relation to culturally sensitive nursing situations.
Identify and further develop his/her own attitudes and values with respect to people with different cultural backgrounds.
Recognise the nurse’s responsibility for professional advances and research.
Recognise the significance of, and participate in, interdisciplinary and inter-departmental cooperation in the municipal health service.

Course unit 12A: Nursing in Mental Health Work
Phenomena and theories related to mental health work.
Mental health work – mental illness – psychiatric nursing.
Interventions in nursing: the nurse’s functions in relation to rehabilitation, treatment and pain relief.
Interdepartmental cooperation and professional development.
Course unit 12B: Nursing Care in Home Services
Home-based services, organisation and leadership.
Practicing nursing in people’s homes: importance of context for the practice of nursing.
Interdepartmental cooperation and professional development.
Care of the elderly and geriatrics in home-based services.
Course unit 12C: Nursing in Care of the Elderly
Phenomena and theories related to patients in nursing homes.
Complexity in the practice of nursing of patients in nursing homes.
Client participation.

Course unit 12D: Nursing in International Health Work
