945 Physical Education and Sports - Foundation Programme, årsstudium

Introduction

The study programme covers theoretical and practical sports subjects. The practical subjects cover ball skills, skiing, skating, snow boarding, athletics, climbing and orienteering, as well as outdoor activities such as dance and play. In the theoretical subjects motor skills and the relation between physical activity and health, culture and society are studied. In this context physiology, anatomy, training theory, sports history, sports sociology and sports psychology are also studied.

The teaching is organised together with, and corresponds to, the first year of the Bachelor’s study programme in Subject Teacher: Physical Education.

General subject teachers specialising in physical education and sports subjects will be qualified to teach in primary and lower secondary schools.

Refer to the individual courses. This programme corresponds to the first year of study of Subject Teacher: Physical Education.

Students enrolled on teacher study programmes will write a Bachelor’s assignment in the third year of study equivalent to 10 ECTS credits (refer to Bachelor Thesis Guidelines at TUC). This will have some impact on the subject’s content and structure.

Teaching and Learning Methods

The study programme includes both theory and practice which are closely related. Students will gain experience of various teaching and learning methods which they will find useful in their future teacher roles in primary and lower secondary schools, but also in relation to their studies. These will include, teacher-directed and student-directed lectures and practical classes, individual work and group work.

Through problem-based learning, students will arrange and organise learning situations, which will prepare them for teaching physical education. This will mostly be done in base groups.

Theory and Practical Training

The period of practical training is organised into nine sessions of interval practice (2 hours teaching + 1 hour of supervision) in the 5-7 grade in a lower secondary school during one semester.

Practice groups are comprised of 4-5 students. Each group will be allocated a mentor.
