Applied Microbiology 4307
Course Objectives
Students will learn how to plan and carry out microbiological analyses. They will learn how to analyse indicator bacteria and microbes that cause disease. Students will also gain knowledge of contagion paths, pathogenesis and environmental conditions that are important for micro-organisms.
Course Description
Work in the laboratory is important with the aim of learning diagnosis of the most important bacteria that cause disease. Laboratory procedures and other material will be handed out. A diagnosis of indicator bacteria from water and foodstuffs will be carried out. Much emphasis is placed on laboratory analyses. On the basis of this students will be able to choose methods for indicating various micro-organisms. They will also learn to understand and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the methods used in the laboratory. Seminars and lectures will discuss the various microbes.
Learning Methods
60 hours of laboratory work, seminars and lectures.
Obligatory: all the teaching
Assessment Methods
A graded written final exam (4 hours). An approved laboratory report is required to pass the course.
