Target Group and Admission Requirements
Applicants must possess general admission requirements (with the exemptions and transference provisions subject to the regulations). The following will also be required:
- A passing grade for course in Art history, at least 10 sp
- Some knowledge and experience from principal institutions and organisations in the Norwegian art world
- Access to and master ICT
- Attend four sessions, approximately five days per session
The following should accompany the application:
- A copy of school-leaving sertificates and certificates
- A written justification
The amount of students will be limited. A call for interview may occur.
Aim of the Programme
The course has two objectives. It aims to provide students with a general understanding of the position and conditions of art in society, and provide expertise in topics such as mediation of visual art, arranging exhibitions and cultural management. One target group are employees in, or in other ways connected to, art institutions. Another target group are students who allready has studied Art History, Cultural Administration and Mangement, College of Art or Pedagogy.
Further Education opportunities
This course is recommended, either as a part of or as a supplement to, 303 Cultural Administration and Management - fee-based programme.It would also be a pratical-theoretical supplement to another education, such as Art History, Cultural Administration and Mangement, College of Art or Pedagogy.
Curriculum and structure

The main subjects are: Art policy, The society of art, The theory of Aesthetics and Contemporary Art, mediation of Visual Art and Art Management.The core of the programme is two 1-week workshops per semster with two introductory days in the first semester linked to the first workshop. The fourth workshop will entirely deal with practical art management.
The students should be prepared to pay the cost of some study trips to museums and galleries in the county of Telemark other surrounding counties.
Teaching and Learning Methods
The study programme is structured so that it will be possible to combine study with a full-time jobb. It is based on a combination of teaching, supervision, self-study and solution of assinments. Lectures, seminars, exhibition projects, internet-based supervision, group assignments and an individual assignment. The web-based learning platform Fronter will be a vital tool in teaching; this will also facilitate contact between programme coordinators, lecturers and participants between the workshop sessions. It is therefore essential that students have access to Internet and e-mail.
Theory and Practical Training
The coherence between practical art management and theoretical approach to mediation of contemporary art is sweeping through the course.
Assessment Methods
Written group assignment in the autumn semester, which counts 20%, 5-hour individual axamination in syllabus-related theory in the spring semester, which counts 20%. Final written individual assignment that counts 60%. use of letter grades, where A to E represents passing marks, F a falling mark. All assinments must receive passing grades to obtain a passing grade for the course.
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
