VUDM3 Mathematics, 3 Web-Based

Introduction

Mathematics is an important aspect of our culture, both as a science and as a tool in a variety of fields, including other sciences. Mathematics also plays a major role in many forms of creative activity. Consequently, mathematics is a major subject in primary and secondary schools as well as in general teacher-education. In learning mathematics while studying to become teachers, students will meet the subject in a variety of contexts. In addition to honing their teaching skills and understanding of mathematics, we will emphasise the nature of the subject and the teaching of mathematics.

The target areas are described in greater detail in the National Curriculum for General Teacher Education (1999), which is to be followed up with subsequent adjustments.
