012 BSc Mechanical Engineering, bachelor
Target Group and Admission Requirements
General Admission requirements + 2FY and 3MX, pre-course, 2-year technical trade school or prior experiential learning + TRES
Aim of the Programme
The study programme in mechanical engineering provides a rounded education with options for specialisation in construction technology or process technology. Central subjects are mechanics, machine parts, mechanical drafting with 3-D modelling, thermodynamics and fluid mechanics. For calculations and construction, we will use modern methods using computer-technology.
The mechanical engineer is characterised by an ability to work in many fields. Among possible fields of employment, one might mention design and construction in mechanical enterprises and process industries, operations, maintenance, safety- and product-quality work and sales, purchasing and marketing.
Further Education opportunities
Upon completing the programme (BSc Civil Engineering), you may seek admission to a two-year Master’s programme in Energy and Environmental Technology or Process Technology (civil-engineer programme) at Telemark University College or Master's programmes in technology at other university colleges and universities in Norway and abroad.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION MA5506 Project MA5 in the 5th semester or PRH606 Main Project MA6 in the 6th semester may be replaced by FB5206 Student Business Venture. FBV5006 Mathematics III is recommended for students who wish to study for a Master’s degree in technological subjects. Students may apply to have other courses approved as replacements for elective courses at Telemark University College and other institutions of education. |
Teaching and Learning Methods
The Bachelor’s study programmes at the Department of Technology are project-oriented, which means that a large proportion of the topics are taught through projects. This pedagogical method gives the students a greater degree of responsibility for their own learning, and experience in problem analysis, information research and problem solving. Each project is carried out by a group of students, often in cooperation with a local business. The group produces a project report which is submitted, presented and defended in an oral examination. Most of the courses last one semester, with periodic tests and a final evaluation/examination.
Students have the opportunity to study abroad during the programme. Telemark University College has exchange agreements with colleges and universities in Belgium, England, France, Italy, China, Nepal, Portugal, Sri-Lanka, Spain, Germany and the USA.
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
