Course Objectives
We explore the idea of ‘Americanization’. This course will investigate American influences on Telemark popular culture, music, literature, the arts, church life and political issues in Telemark from 1814 up until the present day.
Course Description
Telemark culture has been influenced by the United States ever since the Norwegian Constitution was drafted in 1814. Since then, waves of emigrants from Norway up until World War I and a joint war effort against Nazi Germany strengthened the bonds between the two cultures.
Learning Methods
2-3 hours per week, 11 weeks, autumn semester.
Lectures and seminar discussions.
Assessment Methods
1 paper 40%; 1 individual, written, 3-hour final examination 60%. All assessed elements of the course must be passed to pass the course.
