Norwegian Social Studies for Foreign Students 2205

Course Objectives

The lessons on Norwegian social conditions will provide students with the general social orientation which they will need to begin their studies. They will also provide insight into how Norwegian society is organised, and how Norwegians live.

Course Description

Particular emphasis will be placed on the following aspects of Norwegian society:

• government

• educational system

• business

• the social security system and social care

• the language situation

• religion

• equal-rights issues

• immigration and emigration

• cooperation with developing countries

Learning Methods

The lessons on Norwegian society will be based on reading texts, and will, whenever possible, be coordinated with instruction in the Norwegian language.

Assessment Methods

Written, 4-hour examination with questions on social conditions which will count for 25% of the final grade.

The semester assignment will count for 25% of the final grade. A grading scale of A to F will be used in evaluating the examinations, where A is the highest possible grade and E is the lowest passing grade. A collective grade will be assigned for the completed programme, and students must receive passing grades in all four segments in order to receive a passing grade for the programme as a whole.
