Course Objectives
After completing course 9 students will:
Knowledge
• have some insight into the current discourses in their own field
• have knowledge of scientific theory and research methods as a basis for evaluation in their own field
• have an understanding of child welfare research
Skills
• be able to consider legal issues and ethical dilemmas related to the use of force in the context of welfare law
• be able to assess organisational and policy guidelines for the development of welfare services
• be able to assess child welfare work in light of cultural complexity
• be able to assess interdisciplinary cooperation in the context of professional standards and user participation
• be prepared for practical training studies and Bachelor’s thesis work in course 10
Professional competence
• be able to assess the sources of knowledge and discourses that shape the content of child welfare work
• be able to employ a critically reflective attitude in assessing professional issues
Course Description
The content of the course is based on the national curriculum’s requirements regarding the distribution of credits, which function as a guideline for the clarification of the course plan.
National and local knowledge, health and social policy - 5 ECTS credits; science and research methodology - 2 ECTS credits; sociology and social anthropology - 3 ECTS credits; the legal system, legal methods and administrative law - 2 ECTS credits; general, and social psychology - 2 ECTS credits; clinical psychology and mental health - 2 ECTS credits; communication, interaction and conflict resolution - 3 ECTS credits; child care initiatives - 1 ECTS credit; community work - 3 ECTS credits; activities subjects - 1 ECTS credit; working with groups, organizations and networks - 3 ECTS credits.
Learning Methods
Study groups are the key element in the course 9. Teaching and learning methods and the organisation of the course are described in the course plan.
Assessment Methods
Course code: 070-E9: Critical reflection – assessment assignment
Students will answer one of two given assignments based on the expected learning outcomes in course 9. Individual responses (2500 - 3000 words). Graded marks.
There may be as many as six course requirements, which must be completed before completion of the course can be approved. The course requirements are described in the course plan.
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
