Course Objectives

When students have completed course 4 they will:

Knowledge

  • have knowledge of various methodological tools in working with people with disabilities
  • understand what self-determination and user interaction involves in interaction with users
  • have extensive knowledge about preventive measures and the use of coercion, laws and decisions concerning the use of coercion

Skills:

  • be able to plan practical social education work based on the service user’s coping, interests and needs
  • be able to show the basic ability to explore professional issues in a systematic and reflective manner
  • be able to relate their own work in the relevant legislation

Competence:

  • have developed an understanding of the relationship between knowledge, attitudes and skills in the various methodological approaches in collaboration with the users
  • have developed an understanding of how their own work can contributed to coordination and collaboration of services
  • have developed an understanding of how culture shapes professional issues and social education work
  • have developed communication skills characterized by empathy and respect
  • have an understanding of the relationship between adapted communication and cognitive competence

Course Description

The content of the course is based on the national curriculum’s requirements regarding the distribution of credits, which functions as a guideline for the clarification of the course plan.

Law - 2 ECTS credits; scientific theory and research methods - 1 ECTS credit; general, developmental and social psychology - 3 ECTS credits; general pedagogy and social pedagogy - 3 ECTS credits; development of the discipline, ideology, ethics and professional roles - 2 ECTS credits; skills and behavioral learning - 2 ECTS credits; welfare work - 5 ECTS credits; working with groups, organizations and networks - 2 ECTS.

Learning Methods

Lectures and self-study, practical skills training and training in the use of activities and cultural initiatives, group work, supervision, and written and oral presentations.

Assessment Methods

Course code: 061-E4: Social Education Work and Disability – assessment assignment

Individual home examination (3000 words); Graded marks.
There may be as many as three course requirements with at least one a group assignment; these must be approved before the completion of the course can be approved. The course requirements are described in the course plan.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
