Learning outcome

After end of course the students should have knowledege about characeristics of different tourist destinations and the development of some of the destinations. Natural- and cultural heritage are important elements here. The students are further supposed to have acquired knowledge about large city tourism as well as rural tourism and planning problems linked to development of tourist destinations. An understanding of the interaction between public and private actors is a part of this in addition to the understanding of the consequences of destination development for local communities. After end of course the students are also expected to have acquired insight into how GIS can be useful for tourism, i.e. through use of GPS.

The course should give the students skills making them able to contribute as resource persons in planning and development of tourist destinations.

Assessment Methods

Portfolio assessment with two assignments. Each will count for 20% of final mark. One of the assignments will be within GIS. The course will be terminated with a 5-hour written examination (60%). All the continuous assessment elements must receive passing marks. Graded marks.
