Course Description

The concepts of energy and energy conversion

Energy resources and energy exploitation on the national and international levels

Renewable and non-renewable energy

Discussion of relevant energy sources with emphasis on technologies, present utilization, and future potential.

A general study of the chain of values represented by petroleum, and the significance of petroleum for Norwegian society. Topics, which will be addressed in this context, include finding and producing oil, platform processes, transportation of gas and oil and the uses of gas and oil. The environmental consequence associated with the production and exploitation of energy, with particular emphasis on greenhouse gasses. Stress will be placed on the use of the engineer’s work methods and tools whenever practical.

Assessment Methods

40 % submission of assignments/examinations.

60 % final examination

No aids will be allowed during the final examination. Calcultor will be handed out at the examination.

In order to receive credit for the course, the final exam must be passed.

Obligatory participation in possible excursions and guest lectures.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
