Course Description
TECHNOLOGY AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF INDUSTRY AND SOCIETY
Students will:
- Gain knowledge of the historical and geographical characteristics of technological development.
- Be able to give an account of development trends and the main structure of Norwegian industry and business from 1900 up to the present.
- Understand the principles of science and the natural sciences.
- Gain basic knowledge of the relationship between technology, economy and the environment.
- Learn to understand how political and regulatory processes work in relation to business and developments in society.
- Learn to discuss the importance of globalisation and cultural differences.
THE ROLE OF ENGINEERING AND ENGINEERING WORK
Students will:
- Gain knowledge of the diversity of the engineering role in the large and small businesses.
- Gain knowledge of working methods and requirements of non-technical skills.
- Understand the relationship between technology, people and organisations, and how organisations function in working life.
- Learn to apply a range of key engineering tools, materials and construction methods.
- Learn to apply some basic principles for the development of products / processes.
- Acquire a positive attitude to innovation and entrepreneurship.
CHEMISTRY IS AT THE CORE OF TECHNOLOGY
Students will:
- Gain an understanding why engineers need to have knowledge of chemistry.
- Gain a basic understanding of chemistry.
- Gain an understanding of the significance of chemistry for products and the environment.
ETHICS AND NORMS
Students will:
- Gain an understanding of the importance of cooperation and conflict resolution in the workplace.
- Be able to evaluate internal and external environments on the basis of ethical concepts.
- Gain knowledge of norms and basic professional ethics.
- Be able to consider a case from ethical idea to ethical action.
INTERDISCIPLINARY WORK AND PROJECTS
Students will:
- Implement at least one interdisciplinary task or project that involves two or more preparatory course subjects, preferably linked to business / local conditions.
Assessment Methods
PORTFOLIO ASSESSMENT, WRITTEN EXAMINATION (3 hours) or ORAL EXAMINATION
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
