Literature of Mystery and Detection (Online distance-learning course) 2030N
Learning outcome
The student will be familiar with the major traditions, style and authorship in crime and detective literature. He/she should be able to express himself/herself correctly in oral and written English, and be able to use the appropriate literary terms when discussing the texts.
Course Description
The course focuses on a selection of crime fiction texts written in English taken from different traditions and epochs. The syllabus also contains essays and articles that shed light on and discuss the position of the texts in relation to the genre, as well as their cultural and historical origins.
Assessment Methods
Continuous assessment consists of a written assignment which counts for 40% of the final grade. The final written examination counts for 60%. Students must receive a passing grade in both the mid-term assignment and final examination in order to pass the course. Grades will be awarded on a scale from A to F, where E is the lowest passing grade and F represents a failing grade.
In addition to this there will be an assignment which will not receive a lettered grade, but which must receive a passing grade. More detailed information will be provided at the start of the semester.
