Course Description

Course 1: Images, graphic design, visual communication and entrepreneurship

Part 1: Image work and arts orientation

Part 2: Graphic design and visual communication

The course provides an introduction to images, graphic design and visual communication.

Entrepreneurship and innovation constitute an integral part of the course.

Teaching and Learning Methods

The course includes lectures, demonstrations, seminars and visual presentations, as well as theoretical and practical topics; the use of diverse creative methods will be emphasised. The acquisition of knowledge will, to a large degree, depend upon students’ engagement with the learning processes, learning through action and theoretical orientation.

The course is organised on the basis of portfolio assignments designed by the course coordinator.

It is expected that students will work on various presentations and reflection texts aimed at developing awareness and understanding of their own development and learning processes in this field of study.

Students will be responsible for their own learning. This means that each student must keep themselves updated with respect to the syllabus literature and seek professional supervision. Attendance and participation in an active, creative workshop environment is a fundamental and vital condition for gaining maximum benefit from the course.

Assessment Methods

Students will gain knowledge of and experience with various types of guidance and feedback in relation to the specified course requirements, which are set out in the various portfolio assignments.

All the specified course requirements must be submitted and approved by the course teacher before the final assessment.

The final assessment will be related to selected work from the course.

A grade will be awarded on a scale from A to F, where A represents the highest and E the lowest passing grade.

Please refer to Telemark University College Examination Regulations for more information.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
