Knowledge

The candidate has knowledge of:

- The laws that are concerned with children and adolescents in general and the law relating to child welfare services in particular

- The notification, investigation, remedial action and emergency care orders

- The child welfare field of responsibility, organization and practice

- The situation for unaccompanied minor refugees and asylum seekers, and child care responsibilities and tasks in relation to this

Skills

The candidate can:

- Implement case procedures in accordance with the Child Welfare Act and the Public Administration Act

General competence

The candidate has:

- An understanding of the ethical dilemmas that occur in practical child welfare work

Course Description

The content of the course is based on the national curriculum’s requirements regarding the distribution of credits, which functions as a guideline for the clarification of the course plan.

The Legal System, Legal Methods and Administrative Law - 3 ECTS; Child Welfare Law and Other Areas of Law - 2 ECTS; General, Developmental and Social Psychology - 1 ECTS; Clinical Psychology and Mental Health - 1 ECTS; Ethics and Professional Roles -1 ECTS; Child Care Initiatives - 2 ECTS.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Lectures, group work, supervision and practical assignments.

Assessment Methods

Course code: 070-E5: Practical Child Welfare Work – assessment assignment

An assignment that focuses on notification, investigation, case procedure and care initiative in the area of child welfare. Group assignment (4000 words). Graded marks.
There can be as many as three course requirements; one will be related to a test on the Child Welfare Act. Course requirements must be approved before the course can be approved. The course requirements are described in the course plan.
