Sport Physiology III 1113

Learning outcome

After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence.

Knowledge

The candidate:

  • Can give an account of physiological adaptations to physical activity and exercise
  • Has knowledge of nutrition related to physical activity and fitness, and is familiar with current nutritional recommendations for physically active people and athletes
  • Can give an account of experimental studies that can generate knowledge.

Skills

The candidate can:

  • Elucidate their coaching role/practice from a physiological perspective
  • Implement key test procedures for measuring aerobic capacity and muscle strength/power development
  • Conduct an intervention study examining the effects of physical activity and exercise on various physiological parameters.

General competence

The candidate:

  • Has gained insight into relevant professional and ethical issues related to laboratory and test work
  • Can plan, implement and evaluate an intervention study in which sport-physiological parameters are tested and trained.

Course Description

  • Work physiology
  • Circulatory adaptation to training
  • Muscular adaptation to training
  • Neuromuscular adaptation to training
  • Exercise, nutrition and appetite regulation
  • Practical laboratory work, data management

Practical work in the sport-physiological test lab requires a valid certificate in the use of a defibrillator (Norwegian basic course in the use of a semi-automatic defibrillator). Students without this certification must take a course organised by TUC/Red Cross (the student will have to cover approximately 500 kr of the costs).

Teaching and Learning Methods

Groups of lectures will be given in the autumn semester. There will also be seminars and laboratory exercises. The course has a minimum attendance requirement for lectures of 75%.

  • Lectures
  • Learning through practical activity
  • Testing/laboratory work
  • Intervention studies

Assessment Methods

  • Lab report: pass/fail
  • Approved practical lab tests
  • Academic article, graded from A-F, which counts for 100% of the final grade

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
