Learning outcome
After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence.
Knowledge
The candidate has knowledge of:
- The nurse’s responsibilities and functions, and the nursing care that is carried out during the period of practical training.
Skills
The candidate can:
- Integrate knowledge from the natural sciences, social sciences and nursing science topics when interacting with patients, their families and other parties
- Observe the age-related changes and failing health of patients during the period of practical training
- Identify and assess a patient’s resources, coping capacity and ability to meet their basic needs in relation to normal functioning and the risk of failing health
- Plan, implement, document and report nursing interventions based on the best available knowledge
- Demonstrate the ability to care for nursing home patients and their families
- Apply basic communication skills
- Perform basic practical nursing skills independently.
General competence
The candidate can:
- Reflect upon communication skills
- Comply with the laws, regulations, policies and procedures of nursing
- Recognize ethical dilemmas and reflect on relevant courses of action
- Plan, evaluate and communicate their own learning, and seek and receive guidance.
Course Description
Clinical nursing in a nursing home with a focus on the integration of knowledge, skills and attitudes related to:
- Patients
- The nurse
- Interaction
- Context
Teaching and Learning Methods
Clinical nursing for six weeks: demonstration, practice, guidance and reflection.
Assessment Methods
Clinical nursing will be assessed on a pass/fail basis.
