Learning outcome

After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence.

Knowledge

The candidate has knowledge of:

• Pathological processes and conditions
• Medical research, diagnosis and treatment of the most common illnesses
• Medications used to treat common illnesses
• The nurse’s responsibility in relation to medication management
• Nutrition during illness and convalescence

Skills

The candidate can:

• Give an account of and apply knowledge of general and special pharmacology in relation to practical and theoretical issues
• Give an account of and apply knowledge of pathophysiological processes and conditions with respect to practical and theoretical problems
• Give an account of and apply knowledge of medical illnesses, examinations and treatment in relation to practical and theoretical problems
• Use pharmacological reference works and reporting services
• Use medical terminology as well as make use of recent research within the field

General competence

The candidate:

• Can communicate basic knowledge about the most common illnesses and treatment
• Has insight into the importance of the natural sciences for nursing practice

Teaching and Learning Methods

Subject literature studies, digital learning resources, resource lectures, seminars and learning groups.

Assessment Methods

Written individual examination under supervision in pathology, theory of disease and clinical nutrition - 5 hours. Assessed with a grade.

Written individual examination under supervision in pharmacology - 2 hours – examination aids specified in the course plan. Assessed on a pass/fail basis.
