Learning outcome
After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence.
Knowledge
The candidate has knowledge of:
- A selection of works within the field of visual culture
- Key concepts and approaches in the field of visual culture
- Changes with respect to understanding visual expression
- The importance of visual culture in contemporary society, and how social life, identities and experiences are made apparent through visual media
Skills
The candidate:
- Has skills in interpreting and disseminating visual culture to different audiences
- Can orient himself/herself in the various practices and meanings of the concept of visual culture
General competence
The candidate can:
- Reflect on his/her own role as observer and creator of visual culture
Course Description
The course addresses the societal significance of visual culture. The visual is interpreted in a broad sense primarily to include fine art, film and advertising. We will reflect on and debate the dissemination of visual materials in various media, and societal conditions in contemporary visual culture.In addition to professional literature the course includes literatur that deals with visual experessions like contemporary visual media and communication.
Teaching and Learning Methods
E-learning tools are used for publishing course material online, including obligatory assignment questions. Audio files with academic lectures / studio discussions will also be published regularly. Other material, such as presentations, text summarization, links and non-obligatory assignments will be published intermittently. One workshop with lectures, usually of two days’ duration (friday and saturday). Group talks will be held at scheduled times online. Other direct contact between teachers and students will be carried out by e-mail or on the phone.
Assessment Methods
Individual written examination without invigilation, which counts 100% and is graded A - F, where F represents a falling grade.
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
