Target Group and Admission Requirements

This one-year programme in Business corresponds to the first year of a three-year Bachelor's degree in Business economics and administration. The programme is also appropriate as an additional educational year for students in other programmes like engineering, nursing or fine arts. The programme can also be used as an elective course in other educational programmes or as a part of a Bachelor's degree.

This 1-year study programme is of interest to students who:

- Have a higher education qualification and who are seeking a condensed and comprehensive education within economics and administration.

- Want to take a course of study in economics and management while they continue working.

- Wish to update their knowledge, or acquire a better understanding of specific topics or subjects within the field.

- Have varied educational qualifications and through studying parts of the programme will be able to achieve a degree or title.

Aim of the Programme

The main intention of the study programme is to qualify candidates to carry out financial and administrative functions in the private and/or public sectors.

This is accomplished by:

- Facilitating problem-based learning and the active use of ICT, which will provide students with knowledge and understanding of essential topics within the subject area of economics and management.

- Gaining insight into new economic relationships, important decision-making situations, environmental conservation and ethics.

- Providing qualification for further studies.

Learning outcome

After finishing the programme, the student will possess the following competences:

Knowledge

  • have knowledge of central topics within business administration, public administration, business theories and methodologies and general administration
  • will be acquainted with research and development work within the field
  • will be able to update their own knowledge within the field

  • will be able to apply their knowledge to solve practical problems in the workplace
  • will be able to reflect over their own knowledge and competences
  • will be able to find, evaluate and refer to information and academic research materials and present these in an academically appropriate manner

The 1-year programme in Business Studies is equivalent to the first year of the 2-year programme, Business Administration, and the Bachelor’s programme, Business Administration.

The study programme is worth 60 ECTS credits.

It is divided up into 30 ECTS credits per semester and into courses which normally have a duration of one or two semesters with 3-8 hours teaching per week.

Internationalization

Det vil bli benytta varierte arbeids- og undervisningsformer i emna som inngår i studieplanen, for eksempel forelesninger, emne/seminar, gruppeoppgaver, individuelle oppgaver og ekskursjoner. Tradisjonelle forelesningsformer kan bli supplerte med aktiv bruk databasert modellverktøy.

Arbeidsomfang
Forventet arbeidsomfang er 1.600 timer pr. 60 studiepoeng/studieår. Dette tilsvarer ca. 27 timer pr. studiepoeng.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Varied teaching and learning methods will be used in the courses which are included in the study programme, including: lectures, seminars, group assignments, individual assignments and study trips. Traditional teaching methods may be supplemented by active use of e-mail, online learning and IT-based modelling tools.

Assessment Methods

Candidates’ knowledge will be evaluated in all the courses in the study programme. The university college will use a variety of assessment methods. The types of assessment used are explained in the individual course descriptions.
