Target Group and Admission Requirements
The study programme is intended for students who wish to work with real estate transactions and the buying and selling of property. The study programme has a practical approach and provides students with a solid background regarding the role of the real estate broker in everyday practice. Students will simultaneously acquire a practical understanding of economics and law. On completion of the study programme, students will have acquired a thorough background for their future work as a real estate broker. The study programme has been approved by the Financial Supervisory Authority of Norway (31 January 2007), and will enable students to qualify as professionally certified real estate brokers after they have acquired two years of practical experience.
To be accepted to the study programme, students must meet general admission requirements or have prior experiential learning.
Aim of the Programme
The study programme will provide students with a solid understanding of property transactions and the laws and regulations which govern the profession. Students will acquire practical experience in the mediation of property and in document administration, bookkeeping, economics, settlements following property sales and the management of clients’ funds.
Learning outcome
After successfully completing the study programme, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence.
Knowledge
The candidate:
- Has broad knowledge of core topics in the field of real estate brokerage and the Norwegian law as it relates to real estate brokerage, as well as topics in the fields of finance, social sciences, methodology and administration.
- Is familiar with R&D in the field
- Can update his/her knowledge, and throughout his/her future career
- Has knowledge of the particular role, history and traditions of the field from a societal perspective
Skills
The candidate:
- Can apply his/her knowledge in order to resolve practical work-related problems
- Can reflect on his/her own professional practice
- Can identify, evaluate and refer to information and professional materials, and can present them in such a way as to shed light on professional problems
- Has mastery of tools, techniques and terminology relevant to the field
General competence
The candidate:
- Has insight into relevant professional issues and ethics
- Can plan and complete projects independently
- Can communicate subject material orally and in writing, and exchange views and experiences so as to contribute to the development of good practice
- Is familiar with innovative ideas and processes within the sector

Optional courses

The study programme is associated with the 3-year Bachelor’s degree programme in Business Administration, and shares some of its courses with this study programme. The study programme also has some of its other courses in common with other study programmes at the university college.
The entire study programme consists of 180 ECTS credits, which is divided into 30 ECTS credits per semester. Successful candidates will receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Real Estate Brokerage.
The study programme consists of courses that are normally of one semester’s duration and comprise 3-6 hours of teaching per week. Each course provides credits that correspond to the workload required by the course.
Optional courses
The study programme offers suggestions for the choice of optional courses. Students may freely choose optional courses within the university college’s study programme; for more information, see the other study programmes at the university college. However, the study programme timetable and examination plan may restrict this choice. In some contexts, it will be important to ensure that you choose the appropriate optional courses with regard to gaining admission to other study programmes.
Internationalization
Within the study programme it is possible to take 30 ECTS credits (one semester) at an educational institution abroad. The students should make themselves familiar with the agreements and funding that is available. Teaching and Learning Methods
A variety of teaching and learning methods will be used in the courses which are included in the study programme, including: lectures, seminars, group assignments, individual assignments and study trips. Students will be offered the opportunity to do practical work experience in the 6th semester. Traditional teaching methods may be supplemented with databased model tools.
Scope of studies
The expected scope of work amounts to 1,600 hours per 60 ECTS credits / year, which corresponds to approximately 27 hours per ECTS credit.
Theory and Practical Training
The study programme has a theoretical basis, but emphasis will be given to using practical examples as far as possible in the teaching. In the last semester of the third year of study it will be possible to choose between a practical approach and a theoretical approach. Studies and practice in this semester may be carried out abroad.
Assessment Methods
Candidates will be assessed on their knowledge of the study programme courses. The study programme uses a variety of assessment methods, which are explained in the individual course descriptions. Assessment uses a graded scale (A-F) where F represents a failing mark.
