Course Objectives

The students will gain insight into the principal texts and genres of Norwegian contemporary literature, i.e. literature written during the last 10-15 years. Students will gain practice in analysing the literary aspects of the texts and discussing the relationship between the text and the period.

Course Description

Norwegian contemporary literature.

Learning Methods

Spring semester, 3 hours per week for a period of 15 weeks; attendance is obligatory. Students who are not able to attend may apply for exemption. Students must submit two assignments for assessment according to specific deadlines; grades will be adjusted after an oral examination that follows.

The course is included as part of the Bachelor’s degree in Literature and Language, with specialisation in Norwegian, and also in the one-year programme in Norwegian. The course is obligatory for students who wish to gain teaching competence in Norwegian for the lower and upper secondary schools.

Assessment Methods

Written, individual home assignment of roughly 4000 words including obligatory supervision and an oral examination that will count for 100% of the course grade.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
