Learning outcome

Through this course students gain general competence for understanding the terms structure, behavior and performance in a distribution channel. They'll get:

  • insight into how behavior varies from channel to channel - through presentations by participants in selected distribution channels
  • knowledge of basic concepts such as power, conflict
  • skills in planning and carrying out varied tasks in a future position in an organization
  • skills in obtaining relevant data on distribution channels
  • skills in using data on a specific issue
  • skills in presenting issues that are relevant to your topic


Course Description

  • Structure, behavior and performance in distribution systems
  • Framework for distribution activities: Working conditions - determinants
  • Key concepts such as power and relationships within a distribution channel
  • Distribution as part of a logistics system
  • Relationships between channel and customers
  • Competition from being competition between individual actors to be competition between vertically integrated systems
  • International retail distribution channels integrated across borders
  • Future development of distribution channels

Teaching and Learning Methods

3-4 hours of lecturing per week

Assessment Methods

  • Group assignment with an oral presentation, counts for 40% of the final grade,
  • Individual 3-hour final written examination, counts for 60% of the final grade.
  • All course component assessments must receive passing grades.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
