Learning outcome
After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence.
The candidate is familiar with the:
- Main regulations governing employment contracts, including temporary employment contracts and hiring
- Principal regulations governing salaries, deductions, and holiday pay
- Key features of the holidays- and holiday pay scheme
- Principal regulations regarding dismissal, suspension and layoff
- Principal regulations concerning personal data processing and control measures in work places
- Principal regulations concerning employees’ legal status in the event of a business ownership transfer
- Principal regulations concerning the physical and psychosocial work environment, including working hours
- Principal guidelines concerning organisational democracy
- Central provisions of the collective employment law, including social partners, collective agreements, employment disputes and dispute resolution
Course Description
The course is divided into two parts: Employment Law Pertaining to Individuals, which concerns the legal relationship between individual employees and employers; and Collective Employment Law, concerning regulations and tariff agreements, disputes and negotiation. A number of relevant laws will be focused on, including the Working Environment Act, the Civil Servant Act, the Act relating to Employment Disputes, the Holiday Act and the Gender Equality Act. The main emphasis will be placed on Employment Law pertaining to Individuals.
Teaching and Learning Methods
3 hours of lectures per week in the spring semester.
Assessment Methods
- Written examination, 5 hours, graded mark
- Work requirements, mandatory assignment that must be approved in order for the student to take the written examination
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
