Learning outcome

After completing the course the student should have the following learning outcomes in terms of knowledge, skills and expertise:

  • The importance of having a plan for the development of new products
  • The significance of analyzing the needs of customers and the competitive situation before the development of new product solutions
  • Retrieving information about customers and competitors and how to use this information in the development of successful new products

  • Organizing and working in projects.

Course Description

The main topics of the course:

  • Market orientation
  • New product development processes
  • Monitoring of market situations and opportunity identification
  • Identification of customer needs
  • Product planning and specifications
  • Concept generation
  • Concept development
  • Concept selection processes and criteria

Teaching and Learning Methods

4 hours of lecture and supervised group work per week during the spring semester
The students work in groups with real product development projects

Assessment Methods

  • Assignment (project report with oral presentation), in groups
  • Course work, five hand-ins and two oral presentations

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
