Learning outcome

The students will:

  • understand basic concepts in data communication and computer networks
  • acquire knowledge about common local area network components
  • be able to install and manage a Windows Server with Active Directory Domain Services, and Windows client computers in a Windows domain
  • be able to implement and manage simple local area networks and services in a LAN and Internet

Course Description

  • Computer hardware, virtualization and data communication
  • Network components in local area networks
  • Software services in LAN and Internet
  • Windows Server and Windows clients in local area networks
  • Server roles, domains, DHCP, DNS and Active Directory Domain Services
  • Disc management, user management, user groups, permissions, print management
  • Introduction to the TCP/IP protocols
  • Security and encryption

Lab-exercises includes installing, configuring and managing Windows cliient and Windows Server with Active Directory Domain Services and other services on virtual machines.

Teaching and Learning Methods

4-5 hours of lectures, exercises and guidance per week.

Assessment Methods

  • Written examination, 4 hours, worth 100%, graded mark (A-F)
  • Work requirements, a number of obligatory assignments submitted during the course, approved/not approved

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
