- Reflect on fundamental issues relating to form, taste, quality, and the relation between aesthetics (form) and ethics
Course Description
The teaching presents and discusses in dialogue with the students, topics within both aesthetic theory and the practical-aesthetic subjects. The bond between theory and practice will be illustrated through specific examples.
Further, the course will examine and question fundamental questions and problems within aesthetics by focusing on various historical perspectives and key concepts: knowledge of skills, aesthetics, art as play, aesthetic experience, mimesis, beauty, quality, taste, art & technology, globalization, aesthetics and ethics, sensibility, materiality and immateriality, etc.
Teaching and Learning Methods
The course is online-based and includes workshops.
It comprises approx. 130 hours, including 40 teacher-led hours of lectures, seminars and supervision.
- Lectures: approx. 30 hours
- Seminars / online workshops: 10 hours
- Group work / individual work: 80 hours
The course includes chat-rooms and net meetings, and students and teachers may post images, replies and other documents, as well as links to internet addresses. Students will be given instruction in the use of the learning platform. Communication between students and the college will take place through e-mail and Fronter. Training, lectures / lecture notes will be given during the course of the semester. Participation in workshops / online meetings and course assignments are part of the compulsory course requirements. Responses to assignments will be submitted by specified deadlines for approval / comments. Students are encouraged to form groups in the study period, and the college will assist students for this purpose.
The course is characterized by alternation between practical creative work, theoretical orientation and reflection.
Assessment Methods
4-hour, written individual examination.
A graded mark from A-F will be entered on the diploma, where A represents the highest passing mark, and E the lowest.
