Learning outcome
After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes:
Knowledge
The candidate has / can:
- A reflected relationship to art, design culture and mass media in their own work
- Knowledge of material properties and their expressive potential in their own creative work
- Knowledge of the organization and planning of functional workshops and working environment
- Explain the choice of content and methods related to the planning and implementation of teaching at the secondary level
- Knowledge of digital media
Skills
The candidate can:
- Use idea-based and problem-solving methods to work reflectively
- Use skills and knowledge in art and craft activities in, for instance, green / dry wood, clay, metal, textiles, various qualities of paper, snow, synthetic materials and combinations of these
- Display a reflective attitude towards art, design culture and mass media in their own work
- Use specialist terminology when teaching art and design to pupils in secondary schools
- Implement an entrepreneurial project
- Implement a basic project with an emphasis on basic architectural qualities
- Design products inspired by hard and soft duodji (Sami handicrafts)
General competence
The candidate can:
- Problematize experiences related to their own creative work in the context of current curricula for secondary education, didactic and theoretical reflection
- Utilize the opportunities within the subject art, crafts and design to promote reuse and sustainable development
Course Description
The course focuses on the relationship between form, function, materials and techniques. This is viewed in the context of recycling, the environment and resources. The architecture component of the course focuses on elements such as, spatial conditions, daylight and materiality, individual buildings, the city and the countryside, and the interaction between these elements. The course also focuses on how ICT can be used as a tool in creative processes - from data collection to presentations and various digital forms of communication.
Teaching and Learning Methods
The course incudes varied teaching and learning methods, such as:
- Workshop activities
- Lectures
- Demonstrations
- Classes and study groups
- Theme- and project work
- Problem-solving individually and in groups
- Guidance and assessment
- Visual forms of presentation and dissemination
- Excursions
All assignments and course requirements must be submitted by the specified deadlines, and evaluated as passed in order for the student to be given a final passing mark for the course.
Compulsory attendance
Compulsory attendance is required for parts of the course, which is indicated in the semester plan / year-plan; guidelines for compulsory attendance in studies at the Faculty of Art, Folk Culture and Teacher Education apply. Compulsory attendance is regulated by Telemark University College’s Examination Regulations and the Norwegian Universities Act § 40 and § 46.3.
Assessment Methods
The course portfolio counts for 100% of the course grade.
- Three coursework requirements: one of these is selected by the candidate. All the coursework requirements must be approved.
The coursework requirements include:
- One or more products, tests, documentation, reflection, presentation as part of a task
A grade will be given on a scale from A to F, where A is the highest and E the lowest passing grade. Please refer to Telemark University College’s examination regulations for further information.
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
