Course Description

The course Art Lab will take the form of a contemporary workshop, where the potential of artistic production is explored using creative processes. The workshop is of an experimental nature and emphasises idea-development and a multidisciplinary approach regarding forms of expression and choice of subject area. The aim of the course is to underline the importance of rich and varied working processes in artistic production. The course involves discussions, the exchange of ideas and practical creative efforts. Theoretical topics will be related to chosen themes, and the students will in written and visual forms demonstrate their degree of reflection in relation to subject theory, their own work and that of other students. The course includes varied forms of expression, the use of technology and skills in, for instance, drawing and audio, drawing and installation, and sculpture and video.

Teaching and Learning Methods

The course comprises approx. 260 working hours, including approx. 60 hours of instruction.

The teaching includes:

  • Demonstrations
  • Practical exercises
  • Skills training
  • Lectures
  • Guidance, individually and in groups

Instruction will mainly be carried out in the classroom. Teaching takes place in parallel with an introduction to practical working methods and work on assignments. The interaction between creativity, theory and reflection is an important part of the course.

The course aims to provide students with greater knowledge of the subject and a broader perspective with regard to their own creative activity. The student is expected to devote considerable effort to studying. The student must submit portfolio assignments on time. These may include, among other things, results of studies, process descriptions, products and reports.

Assessment Methods

Continual informal supervision and evaluation is part of the learning process and a means for the student to gain greater insight into their own academic requirements for further studies and future professional careers. All the course assignments must be given passing marks in order to be given a final passing mark for the course. A graded mark from A-F will be entered on the diploma, where A represents the highest passing mark, and E the lowest.
