Learning outcome

After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes:

Knowledge

The candidate has knowledge of:

  • Techniques and material properties and their expressive potential
  • Didactic issues at the secondary school level
  • Aesthetic and formal tools when working with various types of image expressions

Skills

The candidate can / has:

  • Demonstrate a reflective attitude towards art, design culture and mass media
  • Use and document idea-based and problem-oriented methods and demonstrate problem-solving and creative ability
  • Skills in techniques, materials’ properties and can utilise expressive potential in holistic expressions
  • Apply skills in practical creative work expressed in two and three dimensions
  • Insight into relevant issues related to the subject in a multicultural school and a changing society
  • Use digital tools in a varied way when working with arts and crafts at the secondary school level

General competence

The candidate can:

  • Communicate art and design culture to pupils in secondary schools and can show understanding of educational opportunities in relation to dissemination and exhibition work
  • Utilize the opportunities within the subject arts and crafts to promote reuse and sustainable development
  • Use arts and crafts in interdisciplinary topics and projects at secondary school level

Course Description

The course builds upon and is a continuation of the the course KUVIK 1: Art and Visual Communication 1. The course focuses on two and three dimensional arts, including drawing, painting, graphics, digital images and sculpture.

Teaching and Learning Methods

The teaching and learning methods include:

  • Lectures
  • Demonstrations
  • Classes and study groups
  • Theme and project work
  • Problem solving – individually / in groups
  • Guidance / assessment
  • Visual forms of presentation and dissemination
  • Excursions

All assignments and course requirements must be submitted by deadlines and evaluated as passed in order for the student to be given a final passing mark for the course.

Compulsory attendance

Compulsory attendance is required for parts of the course, which is indicated in the year plan / semester plan; guidelines for compulsory attendance in studies at the Faculty of Art, Folk Culture and Teacher Education apply. Compulsory attendance is regulated by Telemark University College’s Examination Regulations and the Norwegian Universities Act § 40 and § 46.3.

Assessment Methods

Examination:

One-two portfolios including writing / visual documentation of subject theory and subject didactics material.

The portfolio includes:

  • A tangible product as a solution to a given task
  • Several products, tests, documentation, reflection, presentation as part of a whole (task)

A grade will be given on a scale from A to F, where A is the highest and E the lowest passing grade. Please refer to Telemark University College’s examination regulations for further information.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
