Course Description
The student will specialise in one specific practical-aesthetic area of study, explain their problem approach, and analyse and discuss their chosen problem approach using theory. The Bachelor’s thesis must be professionally-oriented and rooted in both professional art practices and the field of design, arts and crafts.
Through an independent, practical-aesthetic and written work, the student will design, describe, illustrate, analyse and discuss issues related to specific phenomena in a teacher’s workday. The student will apply knowledge of theory and method. Work on the thesis will provide the student with the skills necessary to analyse and develop the subject teacher’s profession.
Teaching and Learning Methods
The teaching and learning methods include:
- Workshop activities
- Demonstrations
- Review of the subject literature
- Seminars
- Supervision
- Visual forms of presentation and dissemination
The student will prepare a reading list for his/her thesis of about 200 pages, which should be referenced in the report. The thesis will consist of a practical-aesthetic work, thorough documentation, theoretical background and a written report with the usual requirements for report writing. It should be presented so that the approach chosen and working methods are readily apparent, and the work should be completed in an appropriate and satisfactory manner. The student, in consultation with the teacher, will choose the topic / area of research. The guidelines for the BA thesis are given in the course, Theory of Science. The BA thesis should comprise 6000 words. The thesis will be assessed on the basis of practical creative work, documentation, selection of relevant theory and a written report. The presentation of the BA thesis should be in the form of an exhibition. The student is required to attend four compulsory tutorials with the supervisor before the thesis may be submitted.
Compulsory attendance
Compulsory attendance is required for parts of the course, which is indicated in the semester plan; guidelines for compulsory attendance in studies at the Faculty of Art, Folk Culture and Teacher Education apply. Compulsory attendance is regulated by Telemark University College’s Examination Regulations and the Norwegian Universities Act § 40 and § 46.3.
Assessment Methods
The thesis consists of two parts that constitute a whole.
The practical creative part counts for 60% of the course grade.
The report counts for 40% of the course grade.
The title of the Bachelor’s thesis will be entered on the diploma.
A grade will be given on a scale from A to F, where A is the highest and E the lowest passing grade. Please refer to Telemark University College examination Regulations for more information.
Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
