Learning outcome
After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes:
Knowledge
The candidate:
- Has knowledge of how aesthetic, visual, material and functional elements are used in creative activities
- Can explain the different approaches and methods in design processes
- Can make use of knowledge from lectures, seminars and the curriculum of the course scientific theory
Skills
The candidate can:
- Document and present newly acquired knowledge gained through theoretical studies and creative and artistic work
- Has acquired skills in working in a research-based way with a task that includes a) a didactic component, b) a creative component and c) a methodological and theoretical component.
- Demonstrate insight concerning didactic questions in relation to art theory and creative and artistic work
General competence
The candidate:
- Has knowledge of how art and design theory and creative and artistic work mutually enrich each other
Course Description
The course will provide the student with research skills so he/she will be able to work with a task that includes a) a didactic component, b) a creative component and c) a methodological and theoretical component. The course will prepare the student for work on their BA thesis. The methods used by the student must be approved by the supervisor. The process should constitute explorative activities through a practical and creative approach. Pilot F3 will be concluded with an exhibition and a report. The selected area of study should be viewed in relation to practice and professional disciplines to ensure cohesion and coherence. The course aims to provide the student with skills and knowledge he/she will need in their future careers as teachers of design, art and crafts. The students will in written texts and visual forms demonstrate their level of reflection concerning their own production and profession.

Compulsory attendance
Compulsory attendance is required for parts of the course, which is indicated in the semester plan; guidelines for compulsory attendance in studies at the Faculty of Art, Folk Culture and Teacher Education apply. Compulsory attendance is regulated by Telemark University College’s Examination Regulations and the Norwegian Universities Act § 40 and § 46.3.
The course consists of independent work under supervision in the college's workshops. It involves interaction between creative work, theory and reflection and the presentation of the students’ own work in seminar groups.
Assessment Methods
Examination:
The assessment will be carried out on the basis of a submitted portfolio which counts for 100% of the course grade. A grade will be given on a scale from A to F, where A is the highest and E the lowest passing grade.
