Learning outcome
After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes:
Knowledge
The candidate:
- Has knowledge of research in the field of arts and crafts (as a school subject and the area of design in industry)
- Has knowledge of various methods of collecting and processing data and can relate this to their own subject area
- Is familiar with som Master’s theses that have been completed at the college
- Has knowledge of how art theory and creative and artistic work mutually enrich each other
Skills
The candidate can:
- Use subject knowledge and problem-solving methods within creative processes and in the analysis of artefacts
- Describe the structure of an academic text and apply this in their own written work
- Document and present knowledge acquired through the use of theory and creative and artistic work
- Investigate the special characteristics of aesthetic experience
General competence
The candidate can:
- Discuss and assess the results of a survey in the field
- Explain different approaches and methods in design processes
- Relate to research-ethical issues
Course Description
The course will provide students with knowledge and experience of basic methods and approaches to the acquisition, development and processing of knowledge. The course will also provide them with the basic skills needed to complete a Bachelor’s thesis.
Teaching and Learning Methods
The course is online-based and includes workshops.
It comprises approx. 130 hours, including 50 teacher-led hours in workshops, lectures and supervision.
- Workshops: approx. 8 hours
- Lectures: approx. 20 hours
- Seminars: approx. 7 hours
- Group work / individual work, approx. 80 hours
It is expected that the student is able to work independently throughout the course. The course requirements includes two “passing points”. This course will run in parallel with other courses in the autumn semester, and the teaching at the college will be given at specified times.
Assessment Methods
Examination:
The following work will be assessed:
- Group assignment and individual assignment; both will be assessed on a pass / fail basis.
