Learning outcome

After successfully completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following learning outcomes:

Knowledge

The candidate has knowledge of:

  • The work of the video artists listed in the semester plan
  • The opportunities of expression and alternative dramaturgy in video production
  • The use of analogue media in video production
  • Digital imaging and video editing

Skills

The candidate can:

  • Independently carry out an artistic project from idea to exhibition
  • Critically evaluate their artistic production in light of video in contemporary art
  • Critically evaluate aesthetic choices in relation to ethical issues
  • Apply creative strategies in their own creative work
  • Verbally communicate their own creative work

General competence

The candidate can:

  • Understand the potential of video medium for artistic expression and can convey their opinions on this

Course Description

The course will be in the form of a contemporary workshop, where students learn to express themselves through the medium of video. It aims to provide students with a practical and theoretical introduction to video art as a genre. The workshop is of an experimental nature and emphasises idea-development and a multidisciplinary approach regarding forms of expression and choice of subject area.

Teaching and Learning Methods

The course comprises approx. 130 hours, of these, approx. 50 teacher-led hours.

  • Workshops: approx. 8 hours
  • Lectures: approx. 10 hours
  • Seminars: approx. 7 hours
  • Supervised activities in the workshop. approx. 30 hours
  • Group work / individual work, approx. 80 hours

The course is characterised by interaction between practical creative work, theoretical orientation and reflection. The course emphasises discussions, exchange of ideas and practical creative efforts. The students will, in written and visual forms, demonstrate their ability to reflect upon their own creative work and results. The course is characterized by an interaction between creative work in various media and theory. Students will develop their ability to justify professional practice.

Compulsory attendance

Compulsory attendance is required for parts of the course, which is indicated in the semester plan / year plan. Students will be responsible for their own learning. This means that each student must keep updated with respect to the syllabus literature and seek professional guidance. The acquisition of knowledge will, to a large degree, depend upon supervision of the learning processes and learning through action. Attendance and participation in an active, creative workshop environment is an important condition for getting the most out of the course.

Assessment Methods

Continual informal supervision and evaluation is part of the learning process and a means for the student to gain greater insight into their own academic requirements for further studies and future professional careers. All the course assignments must be given passing marks in order to be given a final passing mark for the course. A graded mark (A-F) will be entered on the diploma, where A represents the highest passing mark, and E the lowest.
